When invading by myself, is the vulture still better than an Imperial Starcruiser in taking out the defenses? The lower shield amount, and not sure whether the auto guiding missiles or torpedos would be better.

If you're invading alone, ISC is better because of the solar cannon, which will wipe out a vulture within seconds. If you're invading with a partner though, vulture can be very useful.
