Should I join a Corporation ?

I haven't found much on Launchpad relating to Corporations, so thought it time to make a FAQ. Please let me know the things I've forgotten.

Should I join a corporation ?
I'm still too new to really advise. I welcome comments from more experienced players.

What benefit is there from being in a corporation ?
• You get an equal share of the Experience and Reputation earned by all the Corp’s colonies. Your exp and rep increase even while you’re offline.
• You get team members who you can assist and learn from; and who will assist you.

Can I have my own personal colonies ?
Yes, any colonies you make while not a corp. member remain your personal property.

Can I add my personal colonies to the corp. ?
Yes, use the “/givecorp” command.

If I leave the corp, what happens to the colonies I founded ?
They become your personal colonies. Both colonies you had before joining the corp, and those you founded while a corp member.

Rules for corp members
1. Be active. A corp member who is only online for an hour a week cannot hope to contribute more than the exp and rep. they receive, and will be booted out.
2. Contribute to the colony – by colonizing planets, by ferrying resources and/or by helping to defend or invade
3. Do not taking money, weapons, etc from other members’ colonies without asking first.
4. Do not be a traitor. Some players join a corp to familiarise themselves with other members planets, then resign from the corp and invading the other members’ planets. This invariably leads to hatred and revenge.

An allie is the most powerful thing in this game. Make as many as you can and keep them!

Two rules to follor as CEO:

1. Don't be too hard on your corp members or they may steal all your stuff and leave.

2. Don't dumb a load of crap work (cleaning pollution) into 1 members lap and ask another to help you invade. BAD IDEA!

What not to do as a corp member:

1. Piss of the CEO. They will find you on one of your corp planets, kick you out of the corp, destroy you, destroy your pod, and then laugh at you when you say "WTF?". (I have done this to someone...)

My answer is simple:

NO, DON'T corp unless you're bored of playing alone.
It might be useful to corp at first though to learn some stuff from corpmates, other than that, you can play alone fine, if you know how .
