Pledge Law

Post by GRAWRG. » Thu Nov 17, 2011 11:30 pm

third topic today... i know 0.o

they'll all get buried in a day or two. anyway.

NC General Statute 115C-47 (29a) requires the display of the United States and North Carolina flags and requires the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance in all NC classrooms. The school shall not compel any person to stand, salute the flag, or recite the Pledge of Allegiance.

Must require. can't compel. does this make sense to anyone? 0.o

It means they are required by law to do the pledge daily throughout the classrooms, but they aren't legally bound to force students into having any part with the pledge.

yeah. idk. i think my problem is that i dont know how "compel" is defined legally. i feel like requiring all students to say the pledge is compelling. but clearly not.

Makes sense to me, if a kid was being raised in America, and he/she didn't like it, I suppose they shouldn't have to pledge allegiance to it.
I also think forcing them to say the pledge of allegiance is the Gov. overstepping it's boundaries a bit.

It's a law but isn't enforced.

Like marijuana is technically illegal in The Netherlands but is not punishable.
