System ownership is a special status a player or a corporation can get if they own more than 50% of planets in a system, and there are no other players owning colonies in this system.
When a system is owned, all the deployed defenses inside the system become non-agressive, and are not attacked by NPCs. Other players may freely travel without triggering mines, or being fired at by cannons, until they conduct an act of hostility, such as:
- landing on a colony owned by the player/corporation who claim the ownership over the system
- firing at the defenses
- attacking a player, or being attacked by a player who owns the system
- dropping a biodome in the same system
The corporation/player are notified when their ownership over the system is challenged. The deployed defenses become hostile for a period of time towards the player/corporation, who breached the peace.
This way players will be able to protect the systems they own, without worrying about npcs tearing down their laser grids, and without creating difficulties for passers-by.

Again as stated before this has been brought up even up to a year ago this as suggested but always said that there would be something like that incorporated.
Sadly this has been on topic (but never polled to my knowledge -good job with that one) for a while and if anything should be happening it would be nice to have it within the next few patches.
