[IDEA] Toggle colonist resource consumption on/off.

Post by Kasatka » Tue May 13, 2008 8:08 pm

I've suggested it before and I still think it's a great idea.

It would be amazing to be able to allow/disallow colonist resource consumption. We would be able to more effectively manage colonies and it would be a boon to builders.

Solar and weapons production would not be effected. The resource consumption for these processes can be controlled by other methods.

So you're saying that if you have an earthlike with 50k anaerobes and the population is exploding out of control you could limit or cut off the anaerobe consumption by the colonists?

Resource toggle FTW!!

Yep, it's been suggested many times.

I was thinking that since Toonces seems to be so active with changes lately, I'd bring it to the table again.

Troops would seize the food, and fight off any rebels with weapons ^_^

Of course, this would kill morale.

Incorrect!

In a socialist, prison or dictator government resources can be rationed without much difficulty.

You would not of course be able to toggle resources in a democracy.

Oh please put this in! It would let us balance those crazy bio 3's and make them useful!

So they'd rebel and take food, but won't overthrow the local governor when he sets the tax rate at 20%? Uh huh.

On a more serious note, this is both a good and bad idea. It would make things a lot easier, in fact, it would make things too easy UNLESS by locking the consumption you locked ALL resources not just one. But I susepct that defeats the point. Ah well.

Only 20% tax - people don’t rebel at far higher tax rates than that - 50% + is not uncommon.

However it is said that any civilisation is only 3 meals from anarchy.

I'm not sure if this would make things too easy. It would surely make building and colony management a lot less tedious, finicky and irritating though.

It would reduce the extra trips for oil/org/med/ana when building as your hungry colonists wouldn't be grabbing for it all the time. ie. I bring 300 oil to the col and some dork colonists uses it, now I have 299. Oops, another trip!

It also allows you to properly control growth on 5k + cols. Don't tell me that colonists would rebel and take the stuff, that's silly. Allowed, you wouldn't be able toggle resources in a democracy, but rationing is completely possible in the other government types.
