Launcher.exe only hogs CPU, doesnt update

ive tried reinstalling from the site, i noticed the StarportGE_install.exe changed a couple days ago, but still all NEWLauncher.exe or Launcher.exe does is remain at around 50% CPU usage indefinitely
Windows 7, or Windows XP as guest in VMware player with 512mb RAM directx7, the virtual machine can play Diablo2 and AoEmpires2 for instance, what should i try?
