My new players guide to starting off the game well

Post by Zenn » Fri Nov 30, 2007 2:12 am

First of all let me say that everything I write is totally my opinion and that I'm gonna keep this as short as I possibly can.

When u first start the game and create a char I recommend putting your Charisma to 0, your Dex to 10 and your Wisdom to 5.

Charisma is only helpful when either haggling over a few pennies with with your local starport npc merchant, or when colonizing so u can have better morale among your colonist.

When u actually get in the game map u will appear in the Sol System with the beginning ship with only $10,000 credits. the first thing I recommend u do is build up 550k or 1mil credits.

You can do this by either doing 1 (ONE) Hop trade routes that u find or my kindly asking some other players for a donation. When you have 1mil you'll be able to buy a Galaxy Whale and fully equip it with full shields and Cargo Space for those 1 hop trade routes.

If u find a good 1 hop trade route u can easily make 100k-200k per trip in just a few minutes. Do this for your first few days in the game. Don't worry about making a colony. Learn more about the game before you bother to attempt it.

You can also raise 1mil credits by kindly asking a higher ranking player if they are nice they'll give it to you if you explain why u need it. And don't beg for money.

In my opinion (IMO) nothing is more important than fuel conservation. Depending on the ship you have and your wisdom u could use from 4 fuel per warp or 12 fuel per warp. Fuel regenerates on its own very slowly that's why it's important to never travel far for anything if you don't need to.

You can generate 500 fuel immediately when u first start out if you jettion spice that u buy at starports. Do this once a day everyday u log in to build up your fuel as much as possible.

Summary:

Get a Galaxy Whlae, Find 1 hop away trade routes, make a few million credits, make good friends, join a nice/good corp, colonize your own planets (that are as close to either other friendly colonies with lots of resources or close to starports. The closer to either the better.

Use the StarPedia often also. type /help

Hmm....but that sounds boring... :?

I got a more interesting way of starting the game well(and more fuel efficient..I think  )

1. Pod yourself

2.Find an Yellow NPC (ISC/IGS will be best).

3. Kill it with your uber pod/pea shooter.

4. As soon as you have around 4-5 mil from NPCs and -1k rep, go to the pirate base, get a Seth and nukes, find the easiest invadeable colony near you...invade it).

5. Start making others miserable from there.

Other VERY HELPFUL Comments:

1. Sigh, I must be really bored to post this...

2. This is my second post...WOOT!!

3. My first post got deleted

4. Hmm...who are you?

you're joking right? how da hell can a pod with only 1k shield and a pea-shooter as ur only self-defense even destroy and Npc ISC or IGS?

And I don't think that's a veery fuel effiecent idea cuz finding the Npc's and the easiest invadable colony takes time to look thru dozens of systems and evry planet on those systems.

If you have to ask Zenn, then you are the wrong person to be creating a "New Player guide"

People have been fighting in pods since I can remember. It has to do with the fact you can usually hit them but they can't hit you thing... They fire some nukes.... just hop around the system until they go away... fire in their path, and eventually they will go boom.

Oh, and fly backwards allot.

Oh... My Tip to add to the thread.

Do not create more than 1 char in any given server... It's the easiest way to END your game. Permanently.

Nothing, and I hate to break it to you, but most the noobs are leeches who want hand outs, and most the newbs dont even use the forums half the time. :?

I recommend a different start:
1. DON'T use Merc. As soon as you start, trade it in for Falcon. Equip with hellbore or peashooter and full shield. A good way to make money, especially on Civil War, where all the ports have been robbed to under 10k, is to take an escort with your Falcon, and use cargodisrupt on the escortee. This will get you a fair bit of cash, in addition to the normal payment. Escortees normally do not attack back, but if it does, type /e go and it will resume course and stop attacking you. After you have done this several times, you can move on to step 2 or 3.

2. Now you should have over 200k, preferably closer to 500k. Get Avenger. It is not great at fighting, but the good thing is, you can fight most npc's without losing shields. This gets you pots of money. However, if you find a ship that seems able to see you even when you are cloaked, do not fight it, it has battlescanners. You can also do escorts safer, because if things get hairy, you can cloak and the enemies will focus on the escortee. However, if you do as mentioned in step one enough, you probably will be able to skip this step.

3. Battleship. It's not great for trading, but 50 holds can get a bit done, so don't rule out trading altogether. Escorts are good money as well, as you finally have a ship that can hold its own against all ships in the game, despite having a 4000 shield disadvantage vs ISC and Seth. If you fancy piracy, shooting (yellow) npc's and robbing gets good xp and money.

4. ISC or Seth. Need I say any more?

These tips go for permas or rebangs?

Rebang tips:

1. Use your noobship to do some taxis and escorts. The thruster will make you arrive at the destination quicker so more payout, and you don't pay a tradein fee. Then when you have enough money you can either choose to go trade in a flower or go for a whale directly. If you want to use flower -> use it till you have enough to max out your whale. Try getting some explosive charges with it too.

2. Go trade, try to find 1 hop trades, preferably equip/spice trade at both 100% buying price. Trade till you have loads of money. In the mean time, kill every npc on your path.

3. Choose how you're going to play. Want to build? hunt npc? invade? lot of factors you have to think about when you're going for rep/exp/ship/money/weapons/scanners.

DO NOT go for battleship or avenger that fast on rebangs. They drain your fuel really fast with almost no positive points.
