I'd say half familiar layouts, half random. No flippin asteroids at all, no one EVER liked them. Corp size reasonable, maybe 6 so all the vets aren't in ONE corp. If you want new people to have a chance, increase UN protection on colonies to 5 days. It won't hurt old players but will give newer play...

Excellent ideas. One I would add to Building, is tweek the research so it acually is specific to the planet type. No lvl 5 strip mining on a rocky or lvl 5 bacteria farming on a damn greenhouse. Give plantets things they can use. Volcs could use weather prediction for example.

You'll NEVER see a perm without tokens. Tokens pay for the game, and people run out of fuel, and buy tokens. Tokens = Profit for Toonces.

In my humble opinion we have plenty of useless research that can end up on colonies that can't really use that specific research. The Starpedia says the colonists research for the specific planet type...what a lie!!!! I've had colonies make things the have no use for, and then get lvl 5 of that one ...

I get to the posts as often as I can and approve 99.9% of them. I didn't know they don't appear to everyone else until I or one of the other mods approve them. I'll try to catch them faster, and I have no idea how long it takes before it stops making me approve them.

The only problem I've seen so far, is sometimes LZ is HUGE. It makes doming way more challenging especially with the availability of surface missles and the new cloaking patch. Balance is needed to keep people happy. Invaders need to have the thrill of invading while not making it impossible for newer players to keep pace with the steep learning curve. On those layouts with double domes, or domes close to warp it will probably take more than one invader to cap the colony and possibly several deaths. Solar starts the second you land. The closer the dome is to warp, the sooner the shots reach you. I doubt this is a glitch, it sounds like normal game play. Solar can pound you as soon as you land.

I never thought of that, thanks. Right now I'm flying around on the newest perm, and the desk my laptop sits on is about 5 inches higher than if I had my keyboard for my old desktop. The angle is just enough to make my shoulders and neck hurt everytime I play.

Still a great idea, that won't hurt gameplay but will make it easier for newer players. It's not what I would call an advantage, but simply makes it less likely to make errors when scanning/landing. I'm still here but I haven't built a colony or been flying around since Classic ended. I didn't really want to start from zero again. It took a long time to build the Empires I've helped build since 2006. In the end all the Perms I had characters on, became stagnant, and then Toonces eliminated them...

Only thing I could suggest is PM Toonces and see if he can shed some light on the how and why he did what he did. I make no claim to understand his reasoning. I've seen many things over time, and not everytime did I agree or understand how or why he did what he did. Good luck.

Certainly wouldn't hurt newer players to have this tool. When I started I constantly went to the wrong planets based off of neutrino scans. Took me awhile to do it correctly on systems where there were tons of planets.
