i dont see a problem, if you mean your mini map, use your scroll wheel/scroll bar (depending on whether you have a mouse or touchpad) over the mini map to zoom in and out, same goes for the zoom of your ship view

we used to be able to if i remember correctly. it was great for invaders...zoom out, land...print screen. I guess if that feature was removed, that's probably why. It'd be nice to be able to zoom out to create the planet layout pictures for the newer layouts. you could make it only work for uncolon...
