The Wiki is a SPAM wasteland

The main page is trashed, there are tons of pure SPAM pages, and there is SPAM throughout the other pages. Every now and then someone tries to cut back the spam, but there is no standing up to the bots when you only have normal edit rights. It seems there are no activate moderators with any authorit...

Re: Putting c-mines at the end of a BH

Hi all, just checking in with my favorite game, but I can't seem to help myself - I'm compelled to throw in my 2 cents. The design of the BH hasn't changed since the earliest days of the game when everything was a 2-week rebang. There were no lasers or c-mines back then. You could haul a ton of regu...

Re: Save-settings button

Would only work well if there were two(or more) exactly the same planets with the same research and everything... or else, the settings might be good for one or two but not for all. Exactly. The idea is an interesting concept, but every planet is just enough different that you're going to tweak the...

Machinarium

Anybody else try this game yet? It came out a few days ago. Its a single player 2D adventure game in Flash, but not your typical Flash garbage - its a beautifully crafted full game (350MB). It has a great soundtrack that also works well as ambient background for SGE. You can play the first couple of...

Re: Black Hole Maps

Rise of the Pirates is now on the Wiki, thanks GoP. Best to get final maps here: http://www.starportgame.com/wiki/index.php?title=Black_hole Only use the tool http://www.chezpoor.com/sge/bh/index.asp for fixes and new maps. Yeah it is a pain to move the map to the Wiki, but not too bad. Mostly you'v...

Re: New Perma (or extended rebang): "Late Arrivals"

shouldnt the planets start with stockpiled ore? if not, then there is no reason to go to the extra trouble of having intelligently placed defenses. The planets would be mining ore like usual, so yes the solar will be on. In fact the copied settings might need to be tweaked to ensure the ore is not ...

New Perma (or extended rebang): "Late Arrivals"

For every planet in the galaxy, copy the layout, defenses, and settings from a random colonized planet in the other permas. Every planet will start as a colonized UN planet with reasonable defenses, not the computer generated randomness of typical UN planets. There may be a few tweaks to the copies....

Re: starport on wii

If you were good with technology and knew the hardware well its not impossible to put sge on the wii... but it'll most likely be very crappy and hard if not impossible to play. The WII has a Power-PC chip in it, not an Intel x86 chip. This means you need an x86 emulator, and then you need something...

There are 73 layouts (according to Toonces, see http://www.st...

people could take advantage of this and keep killing cols to get the layout they want... whats the chance of that seriously... I agree, getting a specific layout would be a statistical fluke or would take you 6 months on average, but getting rid of the handful of truly crappy layouts would become c...

Re: Buying Sheilds Bug

Wow, that's terrible way to find the bug. The problem applies to buying anything in ports - cargo hold, resources, and shields. This appears to be similar to an ancient bug, where about every 5 minutes the port sliders would go back to "1", but now it seems to happen far more frequently. My guess is...

OK, the P5 black hole map is on the Wiki now. Thanks to Vox for the info! There are 10 known holes, if you know of any others please add them with the black hole tool.

I've not put up the P4 map yet since we've only got 6 known holes. Does anyone have the rest?

Re: The 39 New Planet Layouts

I like this too. This is probably much easier to implement than some of the other ideas such as an expanding universe, but there are still complications. Without getting into any details (I always seem to get in trouble if I post anything about the way SGE was written) I doubt it will happen. Also I...

Re: [Idea] New level of reputation

No, because an established player can't maintain neutral standing. All acts are inherently either positive or negative, and once you've got an empire its impossible to remain truly neutral. New characters are neutral. No, they don't get anything special for being new/neutral, but that seems appropri...

phpBB Forum setting: uploaded image height dimension

Most people upload a 1024x768 image, but you've got it configured to scroll after about 300px. It should be set to 768px before scrolling. I know phpBB has the setting in there somewhere... Make the bank have no limit. I just posted this in another thread but I think in needs repeating. Pasted from other thread: No. The modules do change the economics a bit, but not enough to make a credit limit change. In non-ending MMO's like S:GE, resources (including cash) need to either be scarce...

teh (sic) ability to store biodomes This has come up before, and I used to be opposed to the idea. With a barge you can make a couple of trips when few people are on (or hire someone to do it for you) and then stay away from the bases for an extended period of time. i like this idea alot, however: 1) only to replace some rebang(s), not another rebang, we need less rebangs! 2) the fighting bit is not too important, hardly anyone risks the fight on rebangs in the first place and with so few players on rebangs, when do you ever meet someone to fight? not really a...

Set UN to last the full 14 days. This will create an interesting PAX / PK hybrid. Re: In Game Player Location On Map

Kuka's version has merit. A couple of refinements:

Like the medals it should default to showing your info. If it defaults to off it won't get used and it will be a useless patch.

The intel reports on those with the info turned off should be much more explicit, but only when that player is online.

Re: Colony Pollution

This is only a problem on perma pax games. For all PK games, pax rebangs, and pax big bangs, leave it as-is. For perma pax, the better idea is to convert those servers into pax big bangs. Ultimately there should be 3 pax big bang servers so a new one is starting each month. Give the current perma pl...

For a PAX Big Bang or perma the Charisma stat is the most important. If not using tokens then put the rest into Wisdom, although this does make your ship painful to turn and energy regeneration sucks. If you're going to use tokens then wisdom isn't an issue, put the last 5 into dex. If you're playin...

First thing you should get is the music.
