The game servers named with "PAX" in their title, such as "Pax Galactica", are No-PK games. "Pax" is Latin for "peace". In these games, human characters generally can't hurt other human characters or their colonies.

You can still fight and be harmed by the NPC's. U.N. Protection for colonies lasts the entire game, so any colony that you buy and place down will be safe from invasion for the whole game. In the PAX games, colonists cannot be recruited from Earth, and Biodome kits are much more expensive. Invasion can still occur on the paradise worlds, and other UN colonies that were not started by specific players. Also you generally cannot be killed while offline.

Ways to Die in PAX

In addition to Invasion of either paradise worlds or former UN planets and NPC fights there are a few other ways to be killed in PAX.

Flaks and mines deployed in space do damage. Lasers deployed in space do no damage in PAX.

Players can be killed on any planet with an abandoned dome. All weapons work including mines left on the surface by the prior planet owner. This is the primary way offline players are killed in PAX.

Players can also be killed by their contractors. When a player is on the surface of a corp planet and a contractor lands on the planet, the contractor can leave the corp and attack. Since there are seldom planetary defenses deployed in PAX this can be a dangerous situation. This also works against offline players sleeping on the surface of a corp planet.

Some defensive weapons such as the CEO tractor, the Sethdar EMP and the Whale repulse do have an effect and can be used to cause harm in conjunction with defenses or NPC's.

Other Different PAX Features

There is no interest for money stored on colonies. This means the stock market research discovery is useless in PAX and colonies don't make as much money.

The solar cannon is not useful except on the IG planets and former UN colonies and therefore metal ore is overly abundant.

Military service is only needed to produce limited weapons and the military-related discoveries are less desirable.

Experience earned on planets is 1/4 of standard games, except for the paradise worlds and any UN planets. This makes NPC hunting a viable winning alternative.

Sleeping is always free. There are no fees for sleeping at the tavern, in UN space, or on colonies under UN protection.

You cannot use the /cancelun command on colonies.

Biodomes cost 760,000 credits on rebangs and extended bangs, and 2,090,000 credits in PAX perma games.
