Combat
From Starport: Galactic Empires
The wild frontier of the galaxy is no place for the unarmed. Law enforcement efforts are growing, but so far only a small group of star systems around Sol system are under UN control
The UN Regulatory Spaceforce does not allow combat, but outside of UN controlled space it's every captain for himself. When a ship is damaged by a weapon its shields are reduced. If a ship is damaged while shields are at 0, the ship blows up and its captain is reduced to an escape pod.
If you're blown up while in an escape pod, you'll be returned to Sol and docked 100 gallons of warp fuel in addition to the normal penalty for blowing up.
When a player is blown up, he loses 25% of his experience. The player who defeated him is awarded that amount. The victor's reputation is subtracted by a percentage of the player he defeated's reputation. So if you fight a player with positive rep, your rep will decrease, and vice versa. Approximately 25% of the credits on the person of the defeated player are awarded to the victor. The victor will be entitled to collect any outstanding bounties placed on the head of the player he defeated. Bounties are collected at Star Base Police HQ. If the blown up player has an outstanding bounty, he will lose additional experience according to the amount of the bounty.
For those who desire a more civilized style of combat, a duel may be proposed.
