From Starport: Galactic Empires
Over time players have developed a number of language shortcuts that expedite communication, some generic to all games, some specific to SGE. Here's a list of all the common abbreviations used in Starport.

| an/anas | anaerobes | "Damn, no anas here" |
| arti | artifact | "What the hell? Someone took my arti :(" |
| cmines | compound mines | "Those bastards cmined all the ports!" |
| cap | to capture a planet | "K, I'm going for the cap" |
| dd | dead dome or double dome | "Oh no, this dd had 3 disasters and is now a dd" |
| diss | to distract | " Okies, I'm gonna diss and you slide it" |
| dome | biodome | "This is a crappy dome placement"
or as a verb "I'm going to dome this planet" |
| eq | equipment | "You still need eq to make stuff" |
| lz | landing zone | "Just stay in lz and distract, plz" |
| mo/mets | metal ore | "300 more mo and I'm done" |
| mt | mountainous planet | "Once the mt is ready we can start building" |
| orgs | organics | "What am I conna do with all these orgs?" |
| pb | pirate base | "Where's the pb?" |
| ren/rn | short for 'renuke' or to replenish nukes | "Ren and work on that laserwall" |
| res/rs | short for 'reshield' or to replenish shields | "Ok res and then we're capping this" |
| #-shooter/#-shot | a planet with # number of solar cannon bursts | "Holy crap, it's a 10 shooter!" |
| slide | pass between a wall and a row of cannons | "I know i"m drunk, but lemme slide it!" |
| suislide | slide with a very little chance of making it back | "@#$%, I suislided and died" |
| ur/ura | uranium | "Good thing this port sells uras" |
| volc | a volcanic planet | "This volc's only a 1 shooter" |
| wf | warp fuel | "#@$%! I have no wf left!" |
| wf | weapons factory | "Just drop them [cannons] to wf" |
| 1v1 | a one on one battle according to set rules | "Does anyone want 1v1?" |
