IDEA: UN(united nations) police and Sp (space pirate) police

Postby Thavy » Tue May 23, 2006 1:48 am

ok the subject line may be dumb but i didnt know how else to say it.

Well anyways how about the UN and the SP(for the pirate base area) have there own governing police
For example:
Red steals at ports/colonies and starts to leave sector and unfotrunatly runs into a UN police patrolie (in an isc) he would hail you to stop your ship and you would and then the patrolie would check your ship.

He finds your cargo stolen from (xxx, xxx) he hails you to pay a fine or be sent to the UN space station you refuse he opens fire on you and chases you (and keeps up with you) until you or he is dead (if you kill the UN police he calls reinforcements in to that location)

then you leave in time before UN police come by your bounty goes up for assulting a UN officer and vise versa with yellows

Your in pirate base area and then you see a red(in an seth) come by he hails you and requests you to pay him a fine or give him resources or you may not continue

You refuse he opens fire and etc.

i think that covers everything, so what do you think everyone?

Dude, I realize you're new (actually this is how you come off) so I'll just tell you, read the guidelines before posting, and use the search to find out if your idea is origonal or not.

July 05, you should know the forum posting rules by now.

Do you remember the rule on double posting then??? Nothing personal man, but you can't keep a thread active by posting in it over and over yourself. that is an excelent way to end up having it locked on you.

The point isn't that you rarely post it's that you don't follow the guidelines, even when they have been clearly posted at the top of the page. and you have been a forum member over a year. you should know the rules by now and set an example by following them for newer members who may use this as an example for how they post their own.

I had my donkey chewed out several times about stuff like this before I caught on, and while I may not be the BEST example of this I will try to help others achieve at least the appearance of following the procedure.

All disagreement aside here. this idea would not work, because I can not see anyone supporting taxing patrolls. I don't think anyone wants to be bothered to pay an NPC patroll to continue. most of the time you can avoid them all together. it is not an idea that will pass. (which also explains why the only posts in here are the 2 of us fighting) it wouldn't work.

End the argument and the thread..

I do not like the idea...you are already taxed...everyone at one point or another needs to go thru UN space and there are three of those as opposed to 1 pirate base...the reds can do their own patrolling as can the yellows....most everyone has thier own reasons for being good or bad...instead of automatically just going for the kill, I am guilty as well, start telling the other player they have an option pay up or get followed and destroyed.

Another problem is implementation. The way described, each cargo item would have to have a value assigned to it that it was stolen from [x,x], or that it was stolen at all. Then the NPC would have to go through each item, scanning for a "stolen" value. Which wouldnt be that bad, as search funtions dont take up much CPU. Problem comes in when there's multiple players in one system. Then the NPC would have to diffrentiate between high and low priority, which would just cause a strain on the NPC, and you would most likely have him parked, turning this way and that.

no the cargo isnt going to have an individual value its going to be one flat rate wether you have stolen 1 cargo or 200 cargo its one flat rate and then you loose the cargo as well for stealing it

as for UN protected space the ships are just trying to keep the peace (the tax you pay evey hour when your in the UN goes to running each of the ships for that starbase and including regular UN protection) and if you happen to be a red and a report was filed that something was stolen at that time you went by the yellow ship would stop you, scan you, find nothing wrong and leave you alone

as for the parked npc......he is stationed near the warphole and waits for passers by

All the space police are doing is trying to keep there streets clean (or dirty if your red) you pay one flat rate for each penalty you commited....for example:
Stolen cargo found: penalty price 25k credits
Stole a colony: penalty price 150k credits
Blowing up a UN officer: penalty price 500k credits

heres when you commit multiple crimes are are convicted of them:
stole cargo 5x took 2 colonies and blew up 3 un officers: (cargo penalty)125k credits (colony penalty) 300k credits (UN officers penalty) 1.5 milion credits to a total of: 1.925 million credits
(NOT SET PRICES NEED HELP TO DETERMINE PRICES TO MAKE FAIR)

THIS IS ONLY WHEN YOU PASS BY A UN PATROLIE and he hails you so you can get away with it for a time because he will be only guarding 1 warp hole entrance/exit at a time

For being at the space pirate base and being evil the patrols there wont mess with you and for being good the patrols from the space pirate base would ask you for a small donation to guarentee safe passage through the pirate base (we wouldnt want any accidents to happen to a fine ship like yours) and the same penalties go at the pirate base (captureing colonies near pirate base and blowing up pirate base SP's except stolen cargo)

Trust me, when the police finds one illegal piece of cargo in your ship (boat now or spaceship in the future) then they'll confiscate it all.

It's not a piece of cargo that's marked illegal, it's a whole load.
