What I meant by that is the forums population misrepresents the SGE population as there's plenty of newer players in game but not many in forums. The forums tend to be just grumpy vets complaining about how the games not what it used to. People on the forums have been bitching about new additions and "New SGE" for 6 years, it's not a new thing but everyone seems to think it is when they're complaining about it. You want SGE to go back to 07 style but I'll tell you what, in 07 people wanted SGE in 04 style.

Change is inevitable, but in my humble opinion I had much more fun in 2006 and 2007, than any other period of SGE. Battles were epic, players cooperated and generally were helpful and fun to play with. Game skills were needed, and space fighting was seen all the time. Loved being able to put down a flak or laser in the path of a nuke and get away. One shot solar was boring for those with real skills, but those without super skills could still compete and manage to take back captured planets. Times were simpler then, but as players progressed the game evolved.

for me 07 was my fav times playing so i want those times back. but not with 11 players. i want to play with 07 players and no one else.

Mhm good point. It is a lot about the people, I'd still be playing if the good ole folks I used to hang with were still around. Meh. Battles were one hundred times more epic 07, know why? They were balanced for the most part. It wasn't all about rolling an IGS and seeing who could spam their hotkey and regen energy faster.

Toonces once told me he couldn't undo codes to make a genuine old school server. Taking out patches that have happened since then would also create glitches and problems with the rest of the code. In other words he can't do it, but he can modify some parts of the code. This was partially how we got the original Classic Homeworlds. He took out what he could and that was what we received. It's like pieces of a puzzle, you can't finish the puzzle if you take out random parts of it and still try to make it work. Best explaination I can give.

I say, recode sge. He has the base of it already out anyways. Make it modular so patches can be easily added. Then you can create new things fairly easily.

The problem with the old game was that in a couple of months most of the planets would be built, and pollution wasn't harsh enough to open new ones up. So an extended rebang is the natural format for that type of game.
