I don't know how outdated this is...but is there any way we can help promote the game easily?

as you can see players don't care about toonces
the reason being he doesn't care about us
why on earth would we promote a game than has more problems than the battlefield 3 beta
at lest with that beta players had some input into the final product
if we are going to spend our hard earned cash in this economical climate shouldn't we have some say
game company's like Epic EA Activison Gearbox 2K games all started like toonces 2 nerds in there mums basement making video games and now there all major players in gaming

they didn't do it by not listening to what there market wanted in there games and making there games worse to play than to begin with
toonces has a talent and i think its a shame its being wasted... hes happy to take your money but you don't get to choice in what your buying
im just saying bro if you wanna live in your mamas basement for ever instead of making some real money with your talent that's up to you

call of duty blackops made 250 million in pre order sales
starport i guess hasn't made 200 k after being out for 10 years

Just saying bro do something with your talent

I think that at this point, if there was an easy, free way to promote the game, Toonces would have done it by now. :?

We can post as many fake reviews on gaming sites as we want, but if no one's googling 'Starport: Galactic Empires' anyway it doesn't really matter.

Best I can think of would be to advertise on another mainstream website like facebook, but once again, if toonces was interested in doing it, he would have already done it by now. However I do think that it would pay off in the long term. Even shitty games have thousands of people playing for them, and paying for them, just because of advertising. And since SGE isn't complete BBQ yet (we're still here, at least on the forums, right?), the players the ads bring in would at least end up paying for them.

One of the great things about SGE is it looks so cool as a newbie. Couple that with the options in the admirals club doubling in quantity and the cost of ads to bring in a surge of players should pay for itself and then allow for some expansion.

Hey it's just an idea.

Another thing we could do would be to muster as many people as possible at one time (maybe 100 if everyone liked it?) and just spam SGE related BBQ onto as many sites as possible. Even 20 people constantly spamming A mainstream youtube song might get some attention. who knows.

To answer your question major, aside from anything risky (ads) or desperate (spam), I don't see an economical, effective way of promotion. Maybe if a lot of people put in a lot of time we could think of and implement something, but who the hell wants to do that?

In short, there's no easy way for us players to promote the game.

I don't remember seeing this link promoted by playtechtonics. I have no idea how old it is and the first I've seen it was yesterday.

I've been a regular here since 2006. :\

It IS an easy way to help. 2 clicks. One click to visit the site, and one click to vote for SGE.

BUT

I don't want to give these sites traffic from us if they don't actually promote the game...cause I'll click the vote links for the top games site everyday otherwise.

I wish Toonces would pop into this convo. I know he used to advertize on mmorgp.com...and that is how I found the game way back(those sites work). But I gave a review on their forums last year for SGE and was banned and deleted.

As quoted from Obsoletegamer.com.....here is a interview with Toonces

Ever play the game twenty questions? In an effort to bring you more information on games and the companies and people behind them Obsolete Gamer will be bringing you a new weekly series called Ten Questions.

The feature will work the way it sounds. We will ask various people in the gaming industry ten questions about their company, current projects and gaming background. This week Obsolete Gamer had a chat with Aaron Hunter, lead designer for Starport.

Playtechtonics Bio: Playtechtonics is an independent game development studio located in Austin, TX.

Can you tell us about your personal gaming history and experience?

Aaron Hunter: I started games as a kid with an Apple 2e computer. I began learning programming languages before high school and kept up with it as a personal hobby since then. I’ve worked for a number of large game developers including Microsoft, Acclaim, and others.

Can you tell us about Playtechtonics?

Aaron Hunter: Playtechtonics is a small development company headed by Aaron Hunter, a programmer and designer.

How did you begin with Playtechtonics?

Aaron Hunter: Playtechtonics began in 2001 as a way to break out of the box being defined by corporate game developers and pursue new concepts in game development, particularly the MMO.

Since it is a gaming company can you tell us about the day to day of working at a company that makes games?

Aaron Hunter: Day to day it can be tough to apply yourself to the abstract task of arranging code and graphics and testing it. You have to have discipline and drive. The nice part is you have room to shine creatively.

What are the challenges and benefits of being a maker of independent games?

Aaron Hunter: The challenges are that you can’t get all the graphics and content you want in as fast as the big guys. The advantage is you can do what you want regardless of corporate opinions.

Tell us about Starport Galactic Empires?

Aaron Hunter: Starport: Galactic Empires is action and role-playing MMO featuring player vs. player competition, spaceship combat, and empire building.

Why make it a free MMO?

Aaron Hunter: A free MMO is preferable to a subscription based one because it puts less of a barrier between you and your customers and that allows trust to build between the two.

Do you think games like yours offering a fun MMO experience without the cost could be the future of online gaming?

Aaron Hunter: Yes.

What future additions to Starport are you hoping to add?

Aaron Hunter: We are adding new graphics, new toys, and new galaxies.

When you are not working what games do you currently play?

Aaron Hunter: I normally play speed chess.

Interesting interview but read the highlighted dialogue, see the part about "Trust"? How can he be serious about trust....nobody trusts Toonces because he has consistently changed this game and made decisions that upset his loyal players.

Ore Patch anyone? :( :( ...a complete dick move by Toonces. Reset all of our colony tax to Zero then nerfed all the solars. Basically extorted Tokens and a lot of Time trying to fix what players spent months building and honing. All ruined by 2 patches.

That is the main reason why veteran players quit and new ones don't bother sticking with the game, there is no trust anymore.
