The 30th dollar.

Post by Elly » Mon Dec 15, 2008 8:01 am

Ok, someone answer this for me.

Three people go on a trip together, they stop to check in at a motel. The guy at the front desk said it will be $10 per room. Each person wants a room and puts up $10 at a total of $30.

But one of the people knows the manager, who just so happened to be there, who gave that person a discount and handed back $5. So that person now wants to split the $5 dollars with his two friends, but you cannot split $5 equally, someone will be short changed. So he gives the manager a $2 tip and then hands $1 to each of the other people getting rooms and keeps $1 for himself.

Now, each person got $1 dollar back, making the cost of their room $9 each, 3 x $9 = $27 + the $2 tip to the manager is $29 dollars.
Where the hell is the 30th dollar???

( BTW , I do know the answer  )

I think the real question here is:

How the hell does a motel only cost 10 dollars per night?!

This motel needs a new manager...one with better business plans...

This motel (hotel :P) Is obviously run by very smart people. They obviously own 100 miles of grassy land with 100,000 small beds, always full with people needing accommodation. Thats some smart people.

The cost of the rooms was 25$, plus the 2$ tip to the manager. 27$ in total, 9$ per person.
The 2$ is already included in the 27$, the only thing not included is the 3$ refunded.

this statement is inacurate it should be 10x3 = 30 then 30-3 = 27 then 27/3 = 9

incorrect order of operations
10x3=30
30-5=25
25+2=27
that leaves a dollar for each of them.

30
10 10 10
25 5
25 2 1 1 1

so

cashier- 25

manager- 2

customer a- 1
customer b- 1
customer c- 1

no missing cash there, the equation you got there is wrong, switching over to the 9s messed you up, the cashier did not get each set of 9, the manager has part of the third one

cashier- 9 9 7

manager- 2

customer a- 1
customer b- 1
customer c- 1
