[IDEA] Additional Government Systems

With the intervention of a almost completely revamped colony system and increased difficulty of keeping your colonies self sufficient, its understandable that New Form(s) of Government could be implemented to help players sustain the colonies to a reasonable degree. My first thought on the idea was now that planets take up a large amount of resources, why not have a form of government that encompasses a harvest rate increase? My idea for a different style of government was as follows.

Government Style - Communism (now Tooncism) (name open to suggestions)
Population increase would be slightly higher then democracy.
The morale rate would be .5/hr higher then prison
No bearing on pollution, construction, military or research values.
The bonus would solely benefit the rate of harvest, 10 - 40% bonus.

-- I based this form of government upon the realism of Communism and not the ethics of the "ideal communism" Historically communist countries practiced collectivization of resources and had poor morale among the majority of the lower class, but the population was usually high among communist countries as opposed to democratic ones.

There is a government style to benefit everything except harvesting, Prison greatly benefits Building and Hardware production values. Directorship increases the rate you can research technology or reduce pollution; Democracy is the best for gain on morale and mediocre population growth. And Socialism (Anarchy) is good for morale and the best for the growth of citizens, none address the resource problem many colonies face. Volcanics and Greenhouses in general require alot of attention if they are at the 10000 colonist capacity. And since the changes you cant get every possible research (1 of each in the old system) which did help with all of the resources, though they were not consumed. for a volcanic to be able to produce any one of the four consumed resources faster then its used they need level 5 in that technology which is ridiculous for a volcanic.

This is the end of my little rant, please give me constructive criticism or other government idea's. pleeeeaaasssseee don't scream at me for being a commie because I do not support communism in reality but it fits the bill for this instance.

Nice idea!

I'd suggest a different name, however, since 'Socialism' and 'Communism' are used interchangeably for many people.

Well socialism was originally anarchy thats why i put socialism and anarchy in brackets beside it and communism is the best term to describe what im saying anyway, but i know exactly where your coming from

Although communist countries did practice collectivization, it actually had a detrimental effect on agriculture, so it should lower harvesting instead ;).

In any case I don't think there is a need for more government types, unless they can add something meaningfull to the game. Considering the relatively small number of factors that are affected by government settings, I think the 4 types we have right now is more than enough. Besides volcanic and greenhouse planets are meant to be hostile worlds with little natural resources and high mortality rates. I suppose they could use some beefing on non-classic servers, but that would be best done by tweaking reproduction and harvesting values, rather than adding another government.

Oh and as far as governments go, how about Toonceism :lol:

yeah I got to agree there

Perhaps capitalism
Increased harvesting
decreased taxes

Maybe
Increased morale
Increased Population
But I kinda think the increased harvesting would make that true anyway

Capitalism is a socioeconomic structure, not a government type. Perhaps you're talking about a republic?

That is correct Boom... in fact, most people confuse the government in the USA as being a Democracy... Truth be known, the government in the USA is actually a "Representative Republic".

In fact you already have most of the major types there in the game now with the exception of the "Representative Republic"

Additionally, True Democracy is not much different than Socialism.

I think I have just gotten off the beaten path of the original subject matter of this post, so I'll stop now. :-)
