Ship names, ports, planets, UN protection, colonies, warping between sectors, shield, ship to ship combat, experience, titles, reputation, starbases, resources and resource names, police station, bounties, corporations, haggling, colonists, mines, robbing ports, special locations for evil players, I can go on and on.
I can only assume Toonces was a long fan of TW2002, since SGE is TW2002 in new clothing and nicer graphics.
Since TW2002 was such a huge BBS hit and still has hundreds of active games running today, finish it and include all of the good things TW2002 had:
* TransWarp drive for direct system-to-system jumping; some risk factor invloved
* Long range scanners to see what is in the next sector over
* Corbomite to get revenge on people who blow up your ship
* Atomic detonators: Destroy a planet
* Etherprobes, which fly to a particular sector and report interesting things on the way, then die
