Test Planet Defences

Post by duece » Mon Jun 04, 2007 4:41 am

This idea came up back when i started the game.. but yeah..

As of now, you can get on a corpmates colony, have them /takecolony and play around with the defences practice caps, ect, and they can /givecolony if it gets too rough.

But rather then have to do it through some side effect or trick, why not make it official.

There should be a command something like - /hostile - thatll toggle your defences hostility towards you. When you die, you should respawn over the dome with w.e shields you had starting out.

Pretty simple idea, would let newbs and vets alike practice invading in a safe risk free environment.

People are goin to flame you telling you that people shouldn't be allowed to learn in a safe environment, but I like that idea. And newbs prolly won't know about it until they've learnt the basics anyway so it's all good.

Those kind of people who think one should not learn in a safe environment are the same people who think no one should be allowed to own crap other than them, and generally fall under the thieving, dont-keep-my-bargains archtype. I vouch for this idea.

I'm perfectly fine either way. The /takecolony technique is nice as is. But the /hostile where you can die and be fine would be fun too.

the main appeal of this is that you can set it up on your own, without the need of a partner who has time, and wants turns himself, and all that

it sounds great but could probably be abused a lot when they getting invaded by /hostile and being able to shot at their enemy ad be able to resporn at the dome.

I don't see where using this during an invasion would give you an advantage. You would be drawing turret fire and keeping the turrets from firing at the invader, and you wouldn't last long trying to fire at the invader yourself as you'd constantly be taking damage and getting sent back to the dome. It's far easier to sit behind a couple of friendly turrets and fire nukes at an invader, that way they suck up the nukes headed for you.

Still a good idea. I always wanted to know what my planets are like to invade from another point of view.

Gets suggested once a month. is a good idea. Could also use this to practice specific moves (e.g. corner slide, domeslide, different types of cap) by arranging the defs in certain way. Maybe should give you 8 free nukes just for the test as serious invaders will have nukes. u lose nukes as soon as u cap or die.

I still support an old thread of mine about this. Make a Newbie Server, heck lets even toss the indepth tutorial idea Luna proposed into it.

As to testing defenses specifically, how about /disown? You use it on a colony, get booted into space, and the UN takes control. There, now you can invade the colony to your heart's content.
