[Idea] Achievement badges/medals for SGE

Hello, Starport is a game where players fight for exp and in return, fame yes? Would it be fun to have a system of badges you can do?

It would be a button on your profile page that would lead to a second page. completely blank. There the player badges would go. They would apply account-wide or server-wide. Server-wide would be smaller goals, account-wide would be large sums. You would only be able to receive a badge once and it would get bigger so you can get a "lv2" of it, they would be numerous things like:

Here is some ideas I had for medals that could be introduced without much additional programming.

All of them are hid if you check the hide achievements check-box.

-1,000 Achievement points - "Private Status"
-5,000 Achievement points - "Ensign Status"
-10,000 Achievement points - "Lieutenant Status"
-15,000 Achievement points - "Captain Status"
-20,000 Achievement points - "Commodore Status"
-25,000 Achievement points - "Colonel Status"
-35,000 Achievement points - "Admiral Status"
-50,000 Achievement points - "Fleet Admiral Status"
-65,000+ Achievement points - "Supreme Overlord Status"

Account-Wide:

-Total of 1,000 Alien Kills - "Pesticide"
-Total of 5,000 Alien Kills - "Paraquat"
-Total of 10,000 Alien Kills - "Exterminator"

-Be ranking within top ten of a server that is 200+ days old - "Emperor/ess of (server name)" Note: This goes away if you leave top ten.

They would get bigger and bigger values to obtain them once so you can keep getting them.

In the gaming industry the found out that having an achievement system is a cash cow and will make players play their games more JUST for the worthless achievements to show everyone else..........Do it if ya can toonces! just make them per server not account wide.

Yeah there's no effing way I'd be able to get 10k npc OR player kills on more than one server. That'd just like... whore out my day 24/7... Oh wait. That's what they want... DONT DO IT! DONT DO IT PLEEAAASE!

some of these look good, but some need to be looked at deeply.. like the dome snathcers one. people could just take junks over and over.. maybe a certain sized planet u have to cap? well.. that wouldnt work either, people could just undefend the planet, let u cap and give back..sooo that one may need to be looked into..

npc kills.. thats a good one(100 kills, 200, 500, 1000, 5000, 10000)
player kills is a good one. (100kills, 200, 500, 1000, 5000, 10000)
alien kills is good one (100 kills, 500, 1000, 5000, 10000, 25000, 50000)
150 medals is good.. possible.. ( get 1 gold medal, get 2 gold medals, get 10 gold medals, 25, 50, 100) <-- that would definetly make rebangs A LOT! more interesting in my opinion

there could be some more idea that come to my mind, but theres a lot that people will farm/boost around them to earn the achievements really quick

In reply to Gamanche up there, 50,000 alien kills is pretty far fetched. Like holy BBQ.

But the reason I am replying is participation awards.

Like, an award for playing an ext. rebang and getting top 25 at least 2 times, 5 times, 10 times etc.

Also, fun awards:

"I Know Kung Fu" - Invade a maxed coloony without using a single missile.

"Master Builder" - Have five people die on colonies you built.
"Man in Black" - have 25 people die on colonies you've built (Galaxy defenders!)

as well as community stuff like:
"Game Builder" - Submit 10 ideas in the Research lab.
"Bug Stomper" - Report 5 real glitches or bugs in Engineering.
"Insecticide" - Present 5 solutions to bugs or glitches in Engineering.

Stuff like that. People like that. Anyways yeah

There was another thread something like this at one point that set goals for nubs to guide them through their achievements. KUKA supports this idea - it is tried and true and proven to work in other games. There should be some medal/recognition for everything from first invasion and first 10k pop col all the way up to things people are recognizing here in this thread. Nubs not sure what to do could receive guidance from knowing what the game rewards. Great thread.

Yeah - It's a good way to want to play the game more... Also rank the badges Like... Bronze, Silver, Gold, Plat (Plat/highest-leveled ones being hidden or maybe... Unhidden only after you've achieved the gold before it?), because nobody is gonna want to try after they realize that there's a "Dome 100,000 colonies" award...

i like this idea. of course it needs some work. i think some titles could be different. also i think the requirements are a bit high for some of them. like 7k kills from deployed defenses? only 40 people actively play the game? xD

Most people wouldnt bother if they arent unlocking anything, but once the achievement system is in place, toonces can then add unlockables. One thing that struck me as i thought about it was added things for sale at ports. First we eliminate negs for all, easy to earn back though, just need to get the pesticide achievement. however, they are ratehr pricey, you can get them at a reasonable price if you get Paraquat, and quite cheap if you get Exterminator

Precious cargo makes solar sails for sail in port, milk man drops their price

protectron makes plating for sale in port, wing man drops the price


Patrol - thrusters
Hunter - steering mod
Prowler - flight mod
Stalker - discount to almost reasonable prices in port
Hit man - all 3 are at base prices in port

Murderer - one of the non damaging weapons at above starbase prices (emp, flower power, repeller, etc)
Bounty Hunter - one of the projectiles that cause damage at about starbase prices (rail gun, torps, fusions, etc)
Weapons Master - Nukes, very high prices and restricted amounts for sale, the lowest price in a port would be 200k, and a port would only hold 120 and regenerate them fairly slowly

Guardian - mines, at high prices
Warden - flaks, at high prices
Keeper - lasers or cmines (alternate ports) at high prices

100 Mil EXP Milestone - UN hotline upgrade becomes available. You recieve access to a time log of when ever neg rep players enter or leave UN space (additional tab in the news), only present with commission

i like henry's idea o_O

but i don't like some of the specific awards he's chosen. for example, seeing what system any player is in. granted, just about noone could do it anyway, but its still ridiculously unfair, and clearly an advantage the player doesnt need if they can manage to get 1bil exp. I think the rewards should just be things that cut down on some of the monotony of the game, for example the "biodomes at port" reward, so if you're building a lot far from bases you don't have to keep flying back in. It would also make invading/building the outer reaches a bit easier, so maybe galaxies would fill up more

Hmmm, I really like this Idea. I feel like it would be a much better way for people to show off their accomplishments than the boring achievement system. As stated previously, it does need some looking at because some of those accomplishments would be a little overkill to achieve. However, it's something that should definately be put into the game! :D

perhaps we could utilize that new thing toonces made with hovering over followers and corps to see personals/contractors, and have it so a BIG grey box popped up showing all your achievements earned if you hovered over achievement points

2 mil followers solo - bulk heads, expensive


Getting too late at night for me, these are just suggestions off the top of my head, i havent really thought too much about them, and theres more for the rest, but for now, i just did it for the basic idea.
after mel's idea i think this is a GREAT idea
