Inter Server Friends List

Post by General_Neox » Mon Feb 18, 2008 5:13 pm

How about a friends list that spanned between servers.

The list would tell you if friend is online and what server they are on, you would also be able to use some sort of /tell command to chat with them between different servers.

Perhaps this list would be able to tell you what systems they are in aswell.
To activate It you would have ot hit of the buttons near the radar screen.

This would be great but I'm not sure how much coding would be involved or if it's even feasible.

Is there some aspect that makes it hard or impossible to communicate between servers?

actually i think he might be right, i had some in deept look at how the client connects to these servers and from what i understand each server has it's own port i believe so in theory it should be fairly easy to implement, all you need is to set up the client to monitor the other servers and to sned a message to a certain player who is in a server by using the specific port.

but i might be in error about this port thing, since i didn't see the behind the scene of the game, all i know is being a ex hacker, i put a monitoring software on the client and a lot of interesting info came back  :D

Some other games do have something similar to this in that they use an instant messenger in conjunction with the game. For example microsofts MMORPG's use MSN, but this is an external program and not sure if this is what you meant.

I have been wishing for a function like this. I have a friend that's been playing the Beginners' universe and I'd like to tell him (online) to get his A$$ over to Classic. :P

I love this idea.

What about the people who are playing in disquises on different servers, this would kinda screw them over if they didn't want anyone to know

Other than that I kinda like it though..
