just like scanners why not let plp choose if they want to get a shield generator like the falcon? you could balance the ship to forcing it to have only regular scanners when they have the generator on the ship, also may be we could have a warning for anyone who has a generator (except plp with the falcon) that they will lose their generator if they get better scanners? or maybe there would be no need to balance it, i don't know but i know it would be a life saver, imagine trying to run away from a powerfull player, your shields are 0 you have some resources on you and he tries to fire at you to kill you but then you remember that you could jettison those resources to have enough shields to keep you alive for a little bit.
