Armageddon!

Post by Crosseyed » Tue Oct 16, 2007 7:20 am

So, I was pondering the permaverse bloatage, inactivity, and quantum sorting, and a toy to put in my own game, and came to this amusing idea:

What if, placed randomly somewhere in the game, there was a device, like an artifact or an equipment bay thing, which, if placed somewhere and activated, would announce its location to the entire game and, after a period of time, destroy the entire galaxy (and thus permanently ending that perma). Obviously, The Thing could not be taken into UN space (or you'd be kicked out), nor can the holder stay in a port. The item provides no other benefit other than the ability to trigger armageddon: It basically useless and absolutely nothing positive comes from having it: There's no reason why everyone couldn't simply ignore its existence...but you know they won't.

What happens? Would this be awesome? Epic wars over either causing, or preventing, the destruction of the universe?

We'll call it: Toonces' Car. You can pick it up, swapping it in over your current ship. It comes automatically loaded with infinite fuel, energy, and pre-patched nukes. If you do not wreck within 30 minutes of getting in the driver's seat, the curse of Toonces will force you to, and take the entire server with it. Specific time to be determined by the cat's whimsy, of course.

All I can see this causing is a quest to kill off all the permas by some of us bored players. Would be pretty funny to be able to say you killed off the permas, but yea this idea will never happen I don't think man. Creative idea tho, hehe.

But think of the ACTION this would cause! And eventually, everyone would be jampacked onto one perma, and a giant galactic war would erupt between the Defenders of the Galaxy and the Destroyers.

More than likely he'll just rebang the server instead of actually killing off the server

Presumably, whoever doesn't want their empire wiped out.

hmmm perhaps there are 6 extremely rare artifacts that may only show up at the rate of say 4 per year... once activated the artifact may give either (invincibility for 48 hours... not on planet) and reducing pollution by half on all your cols for a 6 week period or it will unleash a massive plague destroying all of your colonies
there is a 1 in 6 chance that u will get the latter

would u risk it

Who's on the side of the defenders?

If someone other than a member of zion" is holding the artifact, then i will be a defender of the perma. And then only on Frontier Wars. Now if a member of zion* held the artifact, then i would defend the holder, and then only on Frontier wars. I'll leave all the other servers to people who fell more at home on them.

Total armageddon might not be what is needed. Maybe a local armageddon. Say NPC Mercenary Solrac Dryfuss is out to kill off the galaxy and is carrying vast amounts of Corbomite. His ship gets blown up in a random part of the galaxy, deploying an artifact. This artifact is highly explosive and unstable. After a few weeks the stability reaches critical levels and it explodes, killing of all colonies in the system and the systems within a certain radius (say 20 systems total).

Upon blownage the UN would issue a news item that some awefull thing happened at those locations. Free planets! Then people can fight over the freed up planets locally.

wicked idea dude that would definately recreate alot of wars...which are increasingly rare lately.... and about the newb corp that's pretty sick... though we'd have to include Liz as she once claimed that she was an uber newb and I wasn't...so we 1on1ed and she killed herself...I let her have the title....

Armageddon? Hell No. A lot of destruction: yes. But, if you know WHICH systems will be affected, you can use it as a WEAPON.
Randomnewb1: GET THAT THING AWAY FROM MY COLS!
Micool: Why should I? None of my cols will be affected....

Oh and (OFF TOPIC):
Zav - the noob

Smeagol - The Noob of noobs

Jwilson6 - The King of newbs
Hi - The Queen of noobs
