I'm sure this is probably common knowledge with many of the vets, but I find many newbies scared of invading (especially rings) that get massive lag when they shoot. It's bad enough that if you land on a tight ring with the lag, you'll get 1-2 fps trying to get back to warp.
To fix mine, I turned down the hardware acceleration. To do this:
1) right-click on desktop and go to properties
2) once in display properties, go to 'settings'
3) click on 'advanced'
4) once there, click on the tab labeled 'troubleshoot'
5) Turn down Hardware Acceleration until it disables all DirectDraw and Direct3D accelerations.
Hopefully this might help someone as this helped me.
Ifyou're having trouble with LASER LAG, try this
