Random Questions

I have some more newbie questions. I would say don't get annoyed, but this is the place we are supposed to ask questions, right?

1. When a person's pod is destroyed, do they always respawn at earth, or do they go to the closest starbase sometimes?
2. What is the best planet for a weapons factory? Type and settings.
3. Do you get those things that draw nukes away from the starbases, and if so, what are they called?
4. Do lasers placed in solar systems shoot at cloaked ships?
5. How do you get interest from colonies? It doesn't look like my money there is gaining interest.
6. How do you clean pollution? I heard it costs 1mil per 10%, but I can't see where you do that. What are the best buildings for doing that?
7. I think I remember seeing you can put message beacons in space - do people know who put them there when they read them? Can people destroy them?

I know this is long, but thanks...

1.When a Pod is destroyed, you are sent to Earth/Sol.
2.Volcanics *was* the best, because of the extra weapon production bonus. But as I understand it, they're very hard to care for now. So can't give a real answer.
3.Unsure what your talking about there. Do you mean a Garbage Barge..? It's a ship that can carry 24 Nukes/Lasers/Flak Cannons/Mines/etc.
4.If the cloaked ship comes too close, the laser will begin to fire at it.
5.You need to set your tax up slightly. Interest may take a while to build, if not taxing, but it will come eventually.
6.You need to have the Refinery upgraded as far as it will go. Once you have a fully upgraded Refinery, you open the Refinery tab and at the bottom is a button that says "CLEAN POLLUTION".
7.You CAN put them anywhere but the U.N Protected systems. People can NOT see who placed them, but they can read them. And yes, they can be destroyed with Torpedoes, or if a Nuke/Negotiator is launched through them.

Hope that helps.

Yeah man you're at the right spot :P
Northstar wrote: 1. When a person's pod is destroyed, do they always respawn at earth, or do they go to the closest starbase sometimes?
1) the first time you die you just warp to space (or to another system when allready in space) when you get destroyed in a pod you always go to sol.
Northstar wrote: 2. What is the best planet for a weapons factory? Type and settings.
2) difficult, volcs used to be the answer but they are a pain to build, I recommend high pop type cols like oceans or earths.
Northstar wrote: 3. Do you get those things that draw nukes away from the starbases, and if so, what are they called?
3) only the evil starbase (that's the one named Cherny Almaz), you need -1k rep to enter, or you can let a weapon factory produce nukes.
Northstar wrote: 4. Do lasers placed in solar systems shoot at cloaked ships?
4) Nope
Northstar wrote: 5. How do you get interest from colonies? It doesn't look like my money there is gaining interest.
5) Under U.N. protection you can't get intrest, U.N. ends after 3 days on non-pax games
Northstar wrote: 6. How do you clean pollution? I heard it costs 1mil per 10%, but I can't see where you do that. What are the best buildings for doing that?
6) You need the building refinery level 3 to clean pollution.
Northstar wrote: 7. I think I remember seeing you can put message beacons in space - do people know who put them there when they read them? Can people destroy them?

I know this is long, but thanks...
7) No you can't know who put them and yes you can destroy them with any explosive weapon (torps, etc.)

You're welcome :P

I have to argue with your answer on the cloaked ships. (Unless recently changed) lasers will fire at a cloaked ship if it comes too close. However, if you stay away from the lasers, they will not fire at you.

Thanks, I guess I wasn't very clear on question #3. I remember reading a post where someone said they couldn't shoot nukes down a tunnel on a planet because there were (negs?) or something in a nearby tunnel and the nukes would be drawn away and not shoot the lasers... Did I misunderstand, or is there a device that will draw nukes and keep them from hitting their intended targets?

ok when you kill an alien on a planet's surface it yields a "crate" of some sort of resource, and recently they started yielding negs as well. (negs is short hand for negotiator missiles). back in the day missiles would target resources as well as turrets, it was a bug back before the patch that made aliens yield negs as well as resources. i though it was fixed but mabe they still home in on negs.

Wow, that's wild. I didn't expect that. Okay, thanks Milo! And everyone else.

Alright there are several possible answers to this but i believe they were referring to a lazer on the other side of a wall

for example the | is a wall, the o is a lazer, the /\ is ur ship, and ... are empty space

______ ________
........o|ooo|
........o|ooo|
........o|ooo|
........o|.....|
........o|.....|
........o|.....|
........o|.....|
........o|.....|
_____|.....|_____________

............/\..................

where the /\ is ur ship and o are lazers
now your trying to nuke the lazers at the end of the tunnel however when you shoot your nuke it will vear off and target those lazers on the other side of the wall

to get past this you need to "throw your nuke" this is basically going forward really fast and shooting and then back again and repeat...
doing this will give the nuke more speed when it is launched and since the nukes have a bit of a delay before they begin targeting it will be farther down the tunnel when it chooses its target

Jwilson is right they target aliens through walls if the wall is only one square wide (dunno how else to put it...if you an reach through with a grav, then it is thin enough to catch nukes...)

Also, lasers will detect cloaked ships, but only if you fly close to turret like Khayman said. (its something like 2-3 inches i think.)

edit: i like earth best for wep production...most of the time a 9-10k pop will support 40-50% military, stable with at least 5 tax...that gets decent wep production, especially coupled with industry or aerodynamics. only problem is solar sucks...one shot without strip mining.

mm you should take a look at some videos, you might see the effect in one of them, allthough I guess most of those "bad nukes" would be edited out
