Like in so many areas in my life from time to time I like to play the role of story teller. As in this situation as well as my Blog on starportgame, it's 20% fact 30% rumor and 50% made up. Don't take my comment in this thread too serously. However my opinion still stands. If Broken Monkey and Shinshu were to do battle the I believe B.M. would be victorious.

And for your information I was playing rebangs before Death.Adder knew how to defend a colony. I was here the day the first 2 permas started. I just left for real world issues for 6 months after that.

Some of the same players that were in BM who were in Creeper were unable to keep Shinshu at bay. Granted, Creeper made strategic mistakes but Shinshu managed to perfect the build-invade strategy that the current MSR in BR is still in the process of perfecting.

Maniacus, regardless of how old you are vis-a-vis SGE, it's undeniable that BM took a thrashing from the Caeli Republic who then got thrashed by the Empire due to some organizational issues before the war stabilized somewhat before 11th Dimension came over. When the game mechanics changed, BM would've still took a thrashing from the CR any day and would've been totally wiped out from the map, had the Empire not attacked and really, since the Empire and the Caeli Republic agreed to an armistice, if the Caeli Republic cared enough to invade the remainder of BM territory when the first wars on 11th were being waged.

Simply put, in the history of permaverses, BM was one of the few corps that risked total extinction at the hands of another corp while its players were active or semi-active. Of the old players lying around, minus perhaps the dissolution of Creeper and the absorption of the residual empires, BM's losses were catastrophic.

BM's current hegemony arises from the fact that it is the only player on the block. The Caeli Republic is collapsing from its own weight of formerly 1k planets, the Empire is out on more fertile ground, and really, everyone else stopped caring about PV1. Also, Seth, who inherited ALL of Unity, prolly consists of a good 1/3 of that corp.

If the Empire was still playing on PV1, the Caeli Republic would still be playing on PV1, and Unity and ARF would all also be playing on PV1... and Broken Monkey would have NEVER become as powerful as it did under those conditions.

As much as Kwijibo, C'Nedra, Xena, and the rest managed to muster up old names back in the day, the alliance system during Death.Adder's tenure on PV1 basically died when interest faded and PV1 started to freeze up. There are a lot of new names out there and names that have risen to the top of the pack as SGE cycles through. Stellar Frontier was a relatively small corp in PV1 but Ace and Relentless are now some of the best players in the game. Caeli Republic was a know-nothing startup in the West and it produced Black.Dog who is probably a major spearhead in turning the tides in the Empire-MSR War on BR. (All three being alumni of the CR.) Other names exist, but this in part is trying to go back to the genealogy of the matter and back to the glory days of PV1.

That being said, old coalitions fail. Old alliances never remain permanent. BM's spectacular invasion was largely in part due to the fact that the Empire was at best quasi-active and was more or less inactive for months while BM set up its invasion points within the Empire Arm. Think that would've happened in the heyday of PV1? Hell no.

(whispers) You're probably right... but don't tell my man Kwijibo, I'm trying to join BM on perm1 right now...lol

Well, Kwijibo and I've known each other throughout the server so... in PV1, I think that between myself, Kwijibo, Seth, and kluge, the possibility of a server-wide merger is still functional.

For the sake of my sanity, let's hope it pulls through. I want PV1 for all intents and purposes, done and over with.

Wow, this is a really heated topic.
More teamwork inspired gameplay, different defenses for planets but also a sort of corp bonus for being in the same system, a small movement and handling bonus or a energy recharge or something to that effect for having X many members of said corporation there participating.
To me, this sounds like a very bad idea...it'd make corp rapings so much the worse

As he said; he was only throwing out ideas not every single one of them had to be -developed-

Aye, sorry to shut down the idea so quickly...and this shouldn't be commenting on other ideas so much as coming up with ones (I think? What's the topic again?)

heh

The topic was one we proved couldnt be resolved, SD isnt in its prime anymore, and BM is twice as big with recently recruited people, plus its in two different servers, one much older, and the fact that starport cannot handle a super war.

It got onto "what i think could fix starport" thats how we tossed around ideas.

And like relentless said i was just tossing out ideas. The way i brainstorm is i think what is lacking in starport and then i come up with the best possible solution at the time.

In regards to the corp bonus the problem i saw was that there is no benefit at all for teamwork play other than being able to do more or fight more people. Someone could go loner and get a sizeable empire.

My resolution (this all was in about 45 seconds) was some form of bonus, a ship count bonus toward combat abilities was the easiest thing to think of.

Other solutions for the problem could be

--Morale bonus galaxy wide (not just by owner, a minor bonus for every consecutive person with charisma)
--Research bonus (possibly like the first and based off number of members with wisdom)
--Affore mentioned battle bonus (based on number of people with dexterity bonuses)

You could get into greater depth if more RPG elements were added to the game, such as a new government type if you had a collective amount of diplomacy points.

Like i said before non of this is anything im intending to be developed, its just stuff tossed off the top of my head. Anything i suggest would have to be finely tuned to not make a group of fighters in a corp invulnerable with infinite energy or a group of people with wisdom instantly able to research.

I may be bias, however, SD in their prime constantly hit Stealth in freeside, spent alot of hours, tokens and long nights and hit 35 planets in a night (about 5 hrs i believe) which was later beaten with at 40+ by less members (3-4?)

I miss the golden era.

nert you guys have terrible memories, we took 46 planets against STEALTH in a day, and we didnt include the 3-4 planets i had invaded earlier that morning, or the kuka planet that was alone in STEALTH territory we took.

Me you and jodram and viper got it up to 43 against kukamanga empire in a day. I was really wanting to push 50 but i had like 87 fuel and had been awake 24+ hours.

In our prime, Dead-Risin / Booga Booga would have destroyed either those corps.

1 Shot solar cannons was not real invading, 10/120 is the real deal.

I would like to have seen any of them go up against Total Annihilation on the old 11'th.....200 cols invaded in one nite. We were the bet of the best.I have yet to hear of anyone that has ever come close to doing that.

How many of there was you to take 200 cols? I can back myself up with other ppl to the amount I took where as I took them mostly solo... It's not that hard to do in group I bet 75% of those cols where poor dome placements poor military poor solar cannon... But hey I'm only speaking from experience here im not really familiar with u so it could very well be true and if soo it's quite impressive but don't think your the ply one to of achieved that because as hard as it might be to take in, your not the first and you won't be the last  but seriously nice work

angry 11th was dead/filled with noobs and builders when you did that... get over it... they were old layouts and you had no competition on that server and you know it

How did we do it? 4 Groups going at it all nite that's how we did it, and PJ your right 11'th was pretty slow at the time but I knew of no other servers active either. The game was at a all time low at the time.

BTW Jedi we did the same thing a few times on P3 while it was quite active, not 200 cols a nite but close to 70-80 for a few weeks straight. And this was pre-mod. No neutron plates or surface missiles.

I only bring this up from time to time so the current crop of newer players that think they are gods gift to the game get a reality check that's all :)
It will never be spoken of again.........
