I wrote up half a guide a while back, then Toonces integrated mods... and my guide was useless... i wrote it on an ipod touch too... and the thing was long... ANYWAYS
Best thing to do if you want to win AND learn is to listen to a more experienced player who yells instructions at you. If that doesn't happen, you could try yelling instructions at them yourself
cause if no one does, you'll most likely lose.
Best strategy is to defend the outside of a planet. That means surrounding the planet with cmines, and putting lasers in a ring a little farther out. IF THERE IS NO RING OF ASTEROIDS AROUND THE PLANET, then you defend inside. OR if money is tight, or there's not many people in your team, defending the inside is the way to go. Also if you want to have more fun
If you plan on defending the inside, bring flaks along, if it's the outside, cmines or lasers.
That's for defences. As far as which ship to buy, if you want to win and you're a noob, the best strategy is to barge defs. Just buy a barge and 24 flaks and bring them to whichever col your team captures. If your team doesn't capture a colony, then put them around a planet, and go get negs and invade. Once you have a planet, go back to sol for more flaks and keep doing that. Get cloaking if you have extra cash so that you don't die along the way. Afterburners are great for this too, so you can speed by your attackers. And remember to ask your teammates for money while you are at sol. And hail THEM, don't expect them to hail you.
Also if you want to win, offer to be the FP (Flower power). This means you buy a ship (such as a merchant freighter) and buy flower power for it. Then when you have a colony, fp the dome so no one can cap. Straightforward. OR if you're defending the colony from the outside, circle around the planet and fp while staying inside the lasers/flaks so the invaders negs won't hit you.
If you want to have more fun, and less of a chance of winning, get a nice ship, like a merchant freighter or an avenger, and grab defences or negs and use whatever weapons you have to your advantage. The merchant freighter is a great ship to have because it has pd which protects you and your colonies defences. Avenger is great for capping because your invisible and can capture the dome unawares. and your safe to fly around. Although since Blitz just banged, battle scanners are cheap and many people will have them. Your call. Just remember, buying an expensive ship is not always the way to go. Having an amble supply of defences or negs or nukes is even better. And having certain game-winning weapons.
AND DON'T FORGET TO BUY SHIELDS!
Another thing u can do is go for the cap. This is more common when prices are super high and the starter ship is a nice cheap option. You just buy afterburners and those mods that make you fly faster (i never buy em so i forgot what their called) and bring fp or defs. Because capping the colony first is a HUGE advantage.
As for the CEO ship, it's a little more relevant while the prices are still cheap. IF you have the opportunity to buy it (which I believe is when you have the most rating on your team, but this is weird with provisional and sometimes different things happen so idk) and then you get a lot of defs (if you want to win) or negs or nukes (if you want to have fun) and buy shields and some mods, maybe FP, and protect your colony by tractoring people into your defs and holding them there. This takes skill. It's also great to scare people away when you're defending the outside of your colony.
As for weapons: EMP, Repel, tractor, FP are all useful for defending a colony. Cloaking, and afterburners are good for self-protection and capping.
But the biggest thing is teamwork. Listen to your superiors, and if there is none, take control of the situation.
Also check which team has the most wisdom. If there's two planets and you have one and the other team has one, and they have more wisdom (or are getting more exp) then you're gonna have to capture their planet at some time.
And if you're defending a colony, make sure to give any money you have to people at sol buying defences and such when theyre ask for it.
Well that's the gist of it, of course there's SO MUCH MORE but I've gotta go, and I'm sure I missed a lot cause I just kept typing.
If enough people request it, I'd be happy to write an extensive Blitz guide by the way.
